I’m All There

“Wherever you are, be all there.”
-Jim Elliot

As I unpacked my suitcase yet again this evening, I wondered why, but decided to make myself as at home as possible, even though this is only for the next few months.

Within these past few months I have lived in 2 different states then moved to another country, and within the past two months, have moved into 3 different “homes”, not including in-between conferences/little trips in different locations….the longest I have lived in one place recently is about 6 weeks.

Between the constant transitions and getting used to a new and incredibly different culture, it can be easy to make a mental countdown to ease the current situation. But if we are meant to do everything as if we’re doing it for the Lord, then I think that applies to making the most of every day, every situation, every opportunity. As long as we can handle that, everything will be alright.

Until now, I just didn’t understand that quote by Jim Elliot; but now I’m beginning to get it and live by it. When your life is filled with constant transition, you have to learn to make the most of every moment and to make wherever you are, no matter how temporary; home. Otherwise you can become bitter, resentful, and just plain grouchy. We don’t get a lot of say in the things that come our way. We can, however, control how we respond. And we can in fact, choose to be all there; wherever “there” is.

Much Love,

Marissa

  1. How inspiring! I read it a couple of times and it made me think about lots of things. Even if we’re just in our own area and not far away, that’s still the way we should live our life. I’m afraid I find myself drifting along and not always giving it my all or being all there. You have inspired me ! Love you, Gram
